The members of Cdr. William L. Herndon Chapter have extended their efforts in the community over the 2006-2007 Conclave year with involvement in both local and Masonic efforts as well as two major programs, the Herndon Relay for Life and an Internet safety program called TeenAngels.

TeenAngels

With the increased security risk of the Internet among teenagers and unsupervised children with social networking sites such as MySapce and Facebook, the chapter voted to participate in a program to teach their peers about Internet security risks and how to keep their personal information private to Internet predators. In this program, at least 15 members of the chapter are required to take several extensive classes from the regional TeenAngels supervisor in combination with the Herndon Police, and then present the programs to other teenagers in school assemblies, scout meetings, and other similar gatherings. Since the program is so extensive we are still in the process of completing the lessons.

Relay for Life

Cancer has been far to close to home in our chapter in the past, and this year we decided to participate in the local Relay for Life event. We raised just over $1,000.00, which was donated to the American Cancer Association. The money was collected through the end of May and into June. We had 10 members in attendance through the event, and were able to keep at least one member of the team on the track from 2:00 PM until 7:00 AM.

Scottish Rite Learning Centers

Herndon Chapter made a donation to the Scottish Rite Learning Centers for $250.00 during the DeMolay International fundraising drive in November 2006.

Helping the Needy

Over the past year a number of family members of chapter and lodge have been unable to take care of the their lawns or have needed personal assistance otherwise. In such cases our chapter has stepped up to provide the dependable care and need for those individuals.
