The members of Cdr. William L Herndon Chapter has extended their efforts in the community over the 2008-2009 Conclave year with involvement hi both local and Masonic efforts as well as two major programs, the Dulles Day Plane Pull and our local Special Olympics.

Dulles Day Plane Pull - September 6, 2008

Herndon Chapter went out to support the Special Olympics in September of 2008 by raising money to enter a team for the plane pull. The chapter raised a total of $1000 to enter the competitions. Unfortunately the event was canceled by a impending hurricane, but our donations carried forward to assist those in need.

Winter Special Olympics Semi-Finals - January 10,2009

Although we were unable to participate in a greater measure at the plane pull due to inclement weather, we still were able to assist with the Semi-Finals in Ashburn, VA on January 10th. Several Members and advisors assisted in the program by clearing the ice rink, running scores of competitors, and ushering those in need of assistance in a full day event at the Ice House. No small effort was required by the chapter membership to assist in carrying out the day's tasks.

Giving Blood 2008-2009 - Fall 2008 and Spring 2009

In both the fall of 2008 and the spring of 2009 several eligible DeMolay members, advisors and friends gave blood to the INOVA blood centers. The amount of blood donated by the chapter at these events came close to meeting that of the members of Herndon Lodge.

General Community Assistance

Herndon Chapter has always assisted those in need in the past, and this year was no different. The members of Herndon DeMolay assisted Masons, Friends of DeMolay and elderly members of the community with yard work, snow removal, small construction projects and other acts of kindness throughout the year.
